Russian Nim (Abigail Breslin) is a 11-year-old girl who lives on a desert island with his father, a marine biologist named Jack. Begins when Jack (Gerard Butler)found on a sea voyage in the hope of a protozoan unnoticed, a terrible storm leaves him lost at sea. While returning from Nim's father expects her alone, finds himself facing a lot of obstacles. You have to protect the secret island on a cruise ship tourists alone at home to protect their island against two strong monsoon, and try to open a wound two inches to your doctor leg. If it seems to endure all these hardships are too much for her, contacts Alex Rover, the herohis favorite book in the series of adventure. But the author of best-selling books is not as brave as the heroic figure, who created them. In fact, Alexandra Rover (Jodie Foster) an agoraphobic and has not left his house in four months. But if they need to replace Nim's call, Alexandra has her fears and is afraid of nothing back to Nim and protect them.
Nim's Island is what you might call a girl version of Robinson Crusoe. They also have similar-sounding last name: Crusoeand Russian. Although I have no doubt the girls will enjoy the movie, he felt a little 'shaken' as if Walden Media has been too busy, the Narnia film in a near real blockbuster every effort deserves Iceland Nim's. There are some lovely pictures of tropical scenery, amid corny lines, a score to be forgotten, and almost imperceptibly annoying habit of Nim ever what a "thumbs up" and a flood of publicity from Random House, Purell, Apple Computer , Progresso soup,National Geographic, Expedia.com, and others.
The most obvious flaw is that the film was dramatically realistic. First, it is unlikely that a girl who lives on an island adventure with such a passion for the meeting in her bed for hours with his nose in a book. Also does not seem plausible that she has nothing against their own cooking all meals, eat mealworms or home schooling him. Are also, like Nim and Jack seems to have confused the ability to communicatesome of the animals on the island. The island is magical? Nim and Jack have magic? Did I miss something?
I'm not saying that the novel must be entirely plausible, because where would the fun? But good fiction should at least feel like it might be possible. There must be a thread of truth woven into the story so that it works. Take the book and the Disney film Tuck Everlasting, for example. It 'very unlikely that a family has found the fountain of youth and age is never anotherYears of their lives, let alone keep their existence a secret from the surrounding community. But the mastery of history and charm of the characters makes it much more credible. This thin thread of reality is what is lacking Iceland Nim's. The portrait that administrators Painting is one of the fascinating island paradise, but a world very lonely, isolated, cold and shallow. I do not want to visit Iceland Nim's, although I am still a bit 'Girl.
PROS
Although the film does not go into details, like Nim's mother died, there is a general problem that concerns the loss of one or both parents. While all that retains an unusually happy for nim the attitude of his unconventional life and the absence of their parents. This demonstrates a steadfast faith and perseverance.
The film touched on the importance and pleasure of reading, learning and imagination. It could also be the enthusiasm for knowledgeHave portrayed in this movie with your children something new impetus for learning.
The most interesting part of the film for me was the secluded life of the author, Alexandra Rover. Jodie Foster is contagious in its presentation of this kind, and I would have liked to see a couple of scenes, their way of life rather than Nim's. The persistence, in which Alexander won his fear of the outside world has come to the aid of Nim's admirable and heroic.
Even the PG-rated credits"short speech," but must be very brief, because I did not understand any offensive language in the whole movie.
CONS
I'm not really sure why, but Nim often calls his father by his first name, Jack, instead of "dad". Some children may want to take this habit after her in the film, the thought seems to grow.
The directors and screenwriters, asks us to reflect much on the ability of a 11-year-old girl. Knows howrappel to the sides of mountains, the repair of solar panels, react responsibly intensity of storms, and only at home … in the middle of a jungle. In fact, I heard the 'Create your own adventure "to ask who might believe that children can be very difficult and dangerous stunts, never try to think of the consequences.
There's a scene where a sea lion produces a lot of flatulence. A very fat lady on the cruise ship division reveals very tanned, and her husbandAttempts to ogle every female who crosses his path. In a desperate attempt to free their island from tourists, Nim catapults hundred lizards and bearded dragons on the invaders in the hope of frightening them. This is not only inhumane, I would hate starting point for each child threw his pet lizard around the house and thought it was a good idea and secure!
GENERAL
At times the film follows the scenes a bit 'too long, involving a small child might begin to stir, but all inEveryone should Iceland Nim is a clean and safe choice for a night with the kids.
